"It is What it is" is a project about mental health from the perspective of people who struggle with it. It is intended to educate, as well as serve as a way for people who struggle with similar issues to relate to people who may have similar experiences to themselves.
The site layout and style is based on the 'Paper Rad' art collective, while using a theme similar to 90's weather channel programming. The stylistic choice is reminiscent of the old internet in a time where personal blog sites were more commonplace as opposed to modern day social media sites. This choice reflects the ability to allow for more self-expression, creativity, and personality. Mental health is unique as everyone has different experiences with it, so portraying it in this unique manner is important in highlighting that fact. The nostalgic 90's weather-channel theme ties into the fact that mental health is often related to weather patterns, such as rain being linked to depression, etc.
